WomanKind

Overview of service

The service aims to help women improve their mental health and wellbeing by providing a range of confidential, specialist and accessible services which includes a telephone helpline staffed by trained and supervised volunteers offering support to women experiencing sexual and domestic violence and mental distress, and counselling and group therapy services to support women who are victims of sexual and domestic violence and those suffering from mental health problems.

We have a Safer Women’s Project for refugees, asylum seekers, trafficked women and women at risk of abuse. Within this service we provide 1:1 counselling. Many of the women we work with have experienced FGM and bring this into their counselling sessions along with other issues around traumatic experiences they’ve endured. We can offer women up to six months free counselling with interpreters. There is a waiting list for the service as we are one of the few providers that offers counselling to these groups of women.
